Savannah Szemethy is a Biochemical Engineer with a passion for both art and science.

She has been involved in traditional art since high school. In college, she transitioned to more scientific-based artwork as part of her research with the Perry Lab in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Savannah's art focuses primarily on color theory and linework, featuring vibrant hues and crisp lineart. Most of her microfluidic art is set against slightly textured, white backgrounds in order to highlight the contrast between positive and negative space.

Her portfolio mainly consists of microfluidic devices but includes false-colored Scanning Electron Micrograph (SEM) images as well.

For her research, Savannah was awarded three Honors Research Fellowship grants through the Commonwealth Honors College at UMass Amherst. She was selected as a finalist for the annual spring Materials Research Society Science as Art Competition in both 2017 and 2019 for her "Bloom" and "Starry Beach" SEM artworks. "Bloom" was selected as the cover of the 2017 College of Engineering Dean's report at UMass Amherst.
